Kevin joins us with a wealth of experience in Square Dance conventions and a deep passion for the activity.

His journey into Square Dancing began somewhat unexpectedly when his mother-in-law decided to return to dancing after the passing of her husband. At the time, Kevin was a mature-age student pursuing an engineering degree. He offered to take her to dances, enjoying the music and using the time to catch up on assignments. But as many in the community know — a spare male at a dance rarely stays on the sidelines for long! Before he knew it, Kevin was filling squares and quickly developed a love for dancing.

After attending his first State Convention, Kevin found himself among a group of dancers casually discussing improvements for the Square Dance community. When the topic turned to the State magazine (The SAV), the late Tony Rushton challenged them: “Instead of complaining, why not take it on yourselves?” Rising to the occasion, Kevin put his hand up at the AGM and became the SAV Editor — all within his first year of dancing!

Kevin has since held most executive roles within the Victorian Square Dancing Association (VSDA), convened nine Victorian State Conventions, served as Convenor of the 2010 Australian National Square Dance Convention, and contributed as a committee member on two other Nationals. His dedication was formally recognized when he was made a Life Member of the VSDA. He currently serves as the Executive Secretary of the Australian National Square Dance Conventions Board.

Now retired from a long career in the transport and logistics industry, Kevin continues to embrace new challenges. He has a keen interest in web development and dedicates time to working with Special Needs children.

Among his many contributions, Kevin’s primary role with us will be to keep everyone informed and connected via our website.

We’re thrilled to have Kevin on board — welcome!
